Adrenaline adventures near Malton and York

So you want to intermingle a cosy relaxing stay with a few shots of adrenaline. I hear you – whether you enjoy hand break turns, being spun upside down, or whizzing through the forest canopy, there are plenty of options of exciting things to do around Burythorpe.

Dalby Forest

This woodland offers some of the most convenient and beautifully distracting adventures. Within the woodland you’ll find:

Cars, Karting, Quad bikes and 4x4's

With several airfields in the area it’s no surprise that track days are popular around the York area. But it’s not all fancy Ferrari’s….

TI Rally school

Drive rally-prepared Ford Escort MK II Carrs off-road as well as on tarmac and loose surface with people who love what they do.

Everyman Racing & The 6th Gear Experience

Supercars at the ready…

(note these are both nationwide companies so you’ll need to select the York track for appropriate dates).

North Yorkshire Off Road Centre

Described by some as “one of the toughest off road test tracks in the UK” you’ll be able to choose your vehicle and have a go at a range of obstacles on their private hillside and quarry on the cliff top near Robin Hoods Bay.

Karting (& professional F1 simulation)

Explore York Motorsport Village.

Yorkshire Activity Centre

This course is not to test your speed, but your skill and nerve. See how you manage steep slopes and very boggy sections on their mini mountain range.

Hot Air Balloon rides

For those who are not utterly terrified of heights…

Not staying with us yet?

Wrap yourself yourself in warmth within our salt-water hot tub before unwinding with a glass of Chateuneuf du pape in the cosy core of our recently restored Garde II listed farmers cottage in the idyllic rural village of Burythorpe, which is just 7 minutes drive from the thriving market town of Malton.

Don’t be deceived by the name… Flamingo Land Theme Park and (award winning) Zoo. Here you’ll find 9 thrill seeker rollercoasters including:

  • Hero: the only rollercoaster I’ve seen where you fly head first through every turn.
  • Sik: with an incredible 10 inversions including a 25m loop and a dizzying five heart line rolls.
  • Mumbo Jumbo: 112 degree vertical drop…

North Yorkshire Water Park (incl. Obstacle course)

They do the usual things here, paddle boarding, biplane, wakeboarding, kayaking….

… if you’re adventurous though, you’ll be more excited by the ‘ninja warrior’ style obstacle course on Wykeham lake. There are different levels for different abilities (and I don’t like being cold so I’m going on stories from friends) – but the hard level is really hard!
